Kadyrov draws sanguine portrayal of his country to Medvedev

Moscow/Agency Caucasus – At his second meeting on July 25 with Russia’s President Dmitri Medvedev, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Kremlin-backed President of Chechnya, drew a ‘sanguine’ portrayal of his country, though he is particularly faced up with a growing trend in the resistance to his administration.

Kadyrov notified the Russian President about his administration’s works of reconstruction while he also set out the national situation of his country.

It remains, however, unknown whether or not Medvedev asked the Chechen president to account for recent attacks launched by Chechen resisters in Summer.

The following depicts Kadyrov’s portrayal of his country:

"The social as well as political situation of Chechnya remains stable. There are works of reconstruction going on in all economic and social fields. The administration has set out to rebuild the mountainous regions this year. Works of reconstruction began early this year in regions such as Nogay-Yurt, Vedeno, Itum-Kali, Achkhoy-Martan and Shatoy. Within the framework of a special programme, called ‘There is No Trace of War,’ both Gudermes and Argun have been completely reconstructed in the last few years. Reconstruction of Dzokhar-Khala is about to finish. In Nogay-Yurt, the asphalt-concrete factory was rebuilt, and while the reconstruction of a brick factory is about to finish. There are also plans to install water and gas pipes all around the country until 2010. Water and gas can now be supplied to Vedeno, and we are hoping that all households of Vedeno will be able to be delivered water and gas until late this year. As part of an annual tradition, the Chechen children were sent this year to holiday camps in Stavropol, Krasnodar-Krai and Kabardino-Balkar. Official works are underway to hold elections on September 12 in order to transfom the Parliament. Twelve political parties and more than 500 non-governmental organizations will actively attend the elections."

Kadyrov first met with Medvedev in April, when he had not taken to office in the Kremlin yet, though he had won the presidential elections. His meeting with the Russian president was part of the inaugural service in which Medvedev met with all regional administrators.
