United Abkhazia now becomes political party

Sukhum/Agency Caucasus – Members of the United Abkhazia, a socio-political movement of Abkhazia, gathered for a sixth time on January 27 in Sukhum to transform the movement into a political party.

The regulations, the emblem and the flag of the United Abkhazia now as a political party were unanimously voted for.

The new administration was also elected. Daur Tarba, 48, was unanimously elected the party leader. Tarba served as the regional leader of Ochamchira until December 2008.

Among those who were in attendance here were Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh, Nugzar Ashuba, who serves as the current speaker of the People’s Assembly of Abkhazia, and Prime Minister Aleksandr Ankvab.

Boris Gryzlov, a Russian politician and current Speaker of the Russian lower house, otherwise called the State Duma, sent his wishes of good luck to the congress.

During the last presidential elections, the United Abkhazia supported Bagapsh as the presidential candidate.
