Utij Boris dies at 68

Nalchik/Agency Caucasus – Utij Boris, a leading literary figure in the Caucasus, died on September 28 while he was at the age of 68.

Boris was chairing the editorial board of Oshhamafe, a literary magazine circulated in Kabardino-Balkaria. He was not only a national author; he was also a dramaturge and a painter. His friends from the worlds of politics, literature and art, among hundreds of other people, attended his funeral service. He was afterwards laid to rest.  

Murat Thazaplijev, Deputy Prime Minister, made a speech at the funeral: "Boris Utijev was one of the well-known figures of literature and science in the country; he was a successful academician, journalist and teacher. He was also the writer of the Kabard-Cherkessk dictionary of idioms. He produced works in different areas of literature. He was a painter as well as a sculptor," Thazaplijev said.

Those who attended the funeral service said loudly that Utij Boris was a voice to the nation’s conscience. He wrote such famous plays as Tirgatao, Damaley, The Scholar and Mr. Little. He was holding memberships to the Writers’ Association of Kabardino-Balkaria, to the Kabard Literary Council and to the presidential Civil Assembly.
