Georgia uses embargo as weapon against Ossetians

Tshinval – Georgia is trying by means of force and embargo to bring into line South Ossetia, a country that is seeking support from Moscow, administrative capital of Russia, for it international recognition.

While the Georgian administration left Tshinval, capital of South Ossetia, unable to use the supply of water last summer, now it prevents the South Ossetian administration from sending food aid to Znaur, a region where the Ossetians live. A statement released from the administration of South Ossetia said that the Georgian administration has imposed restrictions on the amount of food aid to be imported through Georgian checkpoints in the area of engagement to Znaur. For that reason, aid in sufficient amounts cannot be delivered to the needy of Znaur. Additionally, there is a steady increase in the number of Georgian forces occupied in the area. Provocative action of the Georgian administration mounts tension and the Ossetian allocation units are coming under constant harassment fire.

Even Sanakoyev accuses Tbilisi

Even the Tbilisi-guided administration, set up in the village of Kutra in reaction to the administration of South Ossetian administration, is frustrated with this kind of attitude of the Georgian administration. Dimitri Sanakoyeev, leader of the Management of Temporary Administrative Unit, which was granted official status by the Georgian parliament last year after Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili ordered it to be set up in 2006, said that many Ossetian allocation units could not get water because of the closing of a channel in the stream of Liahvi, leading to a serious trouble across the area.

Sanakoyev, who was the Minister of Defense of South Ossetia between 1993 and 1996, Deputy Prime minister in 1998, and Prime Minister in 2001, opted for cooperation with Georgia after President Eduard Kokoiti removed him from his position in December 2001. (Agency Caucasus)
